Session Description

This presentation will be covered by the Texas Workforce Solutions-Vocational Rehabilitation Services. Objectives will include: Define disability and learn about reasonable accommodations, discuss stereotypes and attitudes associated with disabilities and the effects they can have, learn about different disability categories and medical conditions, and develop knowledge of person first language & communication strategies for success in the workplace.

About the Speakers:

Megan Bennett , Community Outreach & Awareness Specialist for TWS-Vocational Rehabilitation Services.  Megan graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work in 1991 and a Master of Rehabilitation Counseling Degree from Texas Tech University 2005.  Megan has worked for VR Services for 25 years.  She has extensive knowledge of working with individuals with disabilities.


Vanessa Vera received her Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in 2011. Soon after she began her career as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, serving Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy County for over nine years. In this role she supported over 450 individuals with a disability obtain, maintain, and advance in competitive employment. In December 2019 she began her role as the Regional Business Relations Coordinator (BRC) with Texas Workforce Commission – Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (TWC-VRS) for South Texas/Rio Grande Valley as the. Vera serves as a business consultant to employers to strategize solutions to advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for people with disabilities in the workplace.
